Dartmouth College follows a unique quarter plan, often called the Dartmouth Plan or D Plan. The year round quarter system allows students to choose from 12 terms to graduate within, offering the opportunity for employment, internships, dual majors, research, and more. All freshman will be required to spend Fall, Winter, and Spring on campus in classes, but be available to follow their passion for the summer term.

Dartmouth has 40 academic departments with 57 majors available to students. However, students are also free to design their own majors or minors. The five schools on campus include the Geisel School of Medicine, Thayer School of Engineering, the Tuck School of Business, the School of Graduate and Advanced Studies, and the undergraduate college.

Many of the classes are built around the idea of a researcher. Some of the top majors are Econometrics and Quantitative Economics, Political Science and Government, General, Computer Science, Engineering Science, and Experimental Psychology.
