With over 3,400 people on the academic staff and over 2,500 full time faculty members, Duke University has a 6 to 1 student to faculty ratio. A majority of the professors are internationally renowned, with 90% teaching in the undergraduate schools. They are available for assistance with research projects, internships, the Focus Program, and independent studies. Duke also offers programs such as study abroad, ROTC, teacher certification, and distance learning.
After about four years, approximately 88% graduate. A majority of students decide to stay at Duke after completing their first year, resulting in a 97%% retention rate.
Duke is an extremely diverse school within North Carolina, with students coming from all over the United States and the world. However, a majority of students do come from the East Coast as well as Texas and California.
