Getting its start in 1887, Pomona College is now the 24th ranked school in the United States. Located just 35 miles east of Los Angeles, the private not-for-profit college focuses on the liberal arts and offers Bachelor’s Degrees.

Although Pomona College is no longer located in Pomona (it is in Claremont, CA), the city was where the school first laid roots. Established to resemble East Coast schools such as Harvard and Dartmouth, the college sought independence and educational equity. The school moved to Claremont just a year after its founding and in 1925, incorporated the Claremont Colleges. This provided Ponoma and other colleges with a large number of utilities and libraries that all could take advantage of.

Today, seven colleges and graduate schools make up the Claremont Colleges. Ponoma inhabits 140 acres with 63 buildings and 14 residence halls. 1,720 students attend the college every year, all undergraduates. Some famous alumni include David Foster Wallace, Roy E. Disney, Robert Shaw, Bill Keller, Robert Towne, and Cameron Munter.
