The Franklin W Olin College of Engineering, or Olin, is located in Needham, MA and is currently the 32th school in the United States. A private, not for profit, the college concentrates on Bachelor’s only, with no graduate students. Currently, 390 students attend.

Olin College was founded in 1997 out of the F.W. Olin Foundation, a fund for academic related grants. When the board worried about future donor intent, a school was proposed, something Franklin W. Olin had mentioned himself before dying in the 1950’s. By 2005, the foundation had donated most of its finances to the school and closed.

Faculty members were hired in 2000, with students brought on to access curriculum, grading, culture, and engineering education. The first full class took place in 2002, with 75 attending. Students are free to attend classes at the nearby Babson College, Wellesley College, and Brandeis University. Babson also shares athletic facilities, public safety offices, and health services with Olin.

The phoenix (often called Frank) is the official mascot for the college, with an emphasis on reinventing itself. A large gradient of bright colors represents Olin, while the original school colors of blue and silver can only be found on official documents.

Just 14 miles from Boston, the Olin College of Engineering offers an extensive opportunity of education and technology to its students.
