For their first year, all students will be required to live on campus. The residence halls can hold a capacity of 2173. Overall, the school consists of over a hundred academic, athletic, and residential buildings.

Athletics are popular at the college with over 50% of students participating in varsity, club, or intramural sports. 745 take part in the varsity and are known as the Ephs (rhymes with chiefs), for Colonel Ephraim Williams. They compete in the New England Small College Athletic Conference and the most popular sports are Rowing, Football, and Lacrosse. For club and intramural, rugby, horseback riding, fencing, water polo, and gymnastics are popular choices. Students can root on the Purple Cow mascot at one of the many athletic buildings.

Williams College’s campus holds plenty of learning opportunities for students including the Hopkins Observatory, the Williams College Museum of Art, and the four libraries (Sawyer, Schow Science, Archives and Special Collections, and Chapin). Chapin consists of a number of rare books including 50,000 volumes and 100,000 prints, photographs, maps, and more. It includes first editions of books by Isaac Newton and Galileo as well as original printings of the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

Students can also choose to participate in one of the hundreds of organizations available, including academic, community engagement, religion, cultural, and more. If their desired organization does not currently exist, they are welcome to apply on the website. Currently, the school hosts several publications including the Williams Record, The Telos, The Cowbell, Williams College Law Journal, and more. WCFM is the school’s student run radio station and annually hosts an eight-hour long trivia contest.

For academics, students can take advantage of the services such as academic/career counseling, placement, employment, on campus daycare, or remedial.
