With 24 departments and 35 majors, a majority of students decide to study in one of these five: Econometrics and Quantitative Economics, Biology/Biological Sciences, General, Political Science and Government, General, Computer Science, History, and General. Minors are known as “concentrations” at Williams College and there are an additional 12 available that are not offered as majors.

Williams elects to follow a four-one-four plan for their academic calendar, which results in the winter study term for three weeks. Many students choose to use this time to study abroad or work on research projects, but courses also include classes like Ski Patrol, Learn to Play Chess, and Inside Jury Deliberations.

All students attending the college will be required to take certain courses, including three in arts and humanities, three in social services, three in science and mathematics, two writing intensive classes, one in diversity, and one in reason mathematically and abstractly.
