All students are required to live on campus during their time at the Naval Academy. Bancroft Hall, which is the largest dorm in the world, holds all students and has a capacity of 4667.

Participation in athletics while at Navy is mandatory for all students, with a large emphasis of the physical development. Those who don’t make one of the 30 varsity teams can take part in 13 club sports or 19 intramurals. Each varsity winner receives a blue cardigan with a gold “N” and those who beat Army receive a star to place next to the N for each victory. As a result, the biggest game of the year is the Army-Navy football game, with Navy winning all matches for the last 14 years. “Anchors Aweigh” is the common fighting song sung at all sporting events and several Navy athletes have gone on to compete at the Olympics.

Students can also take part in extracurricular activities including performing, music, religion, and honor groups. Other popular choices include the campus radio station WRNV, debate team, humor magazine The Log, and Sandhurst Competition for military skills. For academics, students can visit the Nimitz Library which houses the collection, archives, and several departments.
