Topic of the Week: Relationships ?? This verse from Proverbs produces such strong mental imagery. One can almost see the blacksmith?s hammer poised momentarily above his head before it descends with a resounding clang on the glinting broadside of a dull sword. Or perhaps the scene shifts to the midst of a heated battle where men?s fates are sealed as swords collide. Whether you side more with the vision of the blacksmith or the soldier, there is a seemingly violent and almost destructive nature to this process of iron sharpening iron. What an interesting picture the author of this Proverb chose to represent friendship. Do you have iron in your life? That person who either attacks or defends in any given situation. Or maybe they just constantly bang against you, flattening you more and more with each blow. While we may prefer to be with people who are easygoing and always agree with us, it is these seemingly more contentious relationships that sharpen our character. As we parry with them back and forth our arguments are honed and convictions solidified. If nothing else, they give us so many opportunities to practice patience, forgiveness, and grace. But let us not forget, that we give others those same opportunities as we are the iron in their lives as well. God, help me to love the people you have placed in my life even if it?s uncomfortable. Our call to salvation, is not to an isolation away from God?s decree, but rather to exemplify his character, quality, and virtue. The father?s decree, then, is to lead his children not toward individualism, but rather to be a unique image bearer that reflects the grandeur, wonder, and glory of God (Romans 8:29; Ephesians 4:23-24; Colossians 3:10). Model character in your daily living and teach Christian virtue through the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. From now until finals we will be collecting aluminum cans. The collection box is outside Mrs. Parson's office. The tabs need to be separated from the cans and the cans need to be crushed. The tabs will go to the Ronald McDonald House and the cans will go for a donation to Make a Wish. These are 2 of our community service projects. We need as many cans as we can get.

On Tuesday Sept. 29 from 5:00 - 6:30 pm PBL will be having a beginning of the year social in the Moody dining room. There will be a meal included. Be sure to come join us for this time of member fellowship.

Topic of the Week: Strength And Peace?????? Both strength and peace are things we often think of as being from within. Inner strength and inner peace are common phrases. While it?s true that we perhaps experience those things internally, the source of them is both external and eternal. God gives us strength and blesses us with peace. When we go through challenging times, we can be tempted to ?dig deep? inside ourselves to find the strength to carry on. The truth is we should ?reach out? to the source of that strength. If we feel we have nothing left, it?s a sign that we are looking in the wrong place for peace or perseverance. The wonderful news is there is an endless supply, and God wants to bless us with both strength and peace. God, thank you for giving me strength to face difficult challenges. Let?s say this king supplied daily bread, extended mercy to those in trouble, and gave himself on behalf of those in his kingdom. Then, let?s say the king asked you to become his representative to those people. In effect, he was calling you to be his ambassador. He was entrusting you with his authority and words. When you would speak, the words you spoke would represent the king?s words. When you would act, the patterns of your life would enact the king?s grace or justice. As the king?s representative, it would be as if the king was right there, living through you. And so it is with us as we live our lives for Christ, as his representatives.
