Notre Dame is known for its extremely competitive admissions process. Every year, approximately 28,400 apply with only 3,500 or 12% percent receiving acceptance letters. 2,100 will decide to enroll the following Fall.

All applications to Notre Dame must be filled out using either the Common Application or the Coalition Application. They should include none but none are also recommended. Certain majors may require additional materials. Undergraduates will be required to pay a fee of $75 and graduates, $75.

Applications first become available on August 1st. Students who wish to apply for Restrictive Early Action should aim for November 1st. Early decision for Notre Dame is non-binding, meaning students are free to apply to other schools. For regular decision students, the due date is January 1st. For those who are unsure which to apply for, ND on the Road may be visiting their city to give them a better idea of the university.

Notre Dame is made up of four colleges and one school. Each department requires different high school courses. If any courses were missed, the university offers students the chance to make those courses up prior to attending in the fall. Language and algebra classes taken in 8th grade can also count towards high school credit.

Admissions at the university look at the application as a whole, not at one particular part. Most are in the top 1% of their class, with a SAT Combined range of 1,450 - 1,540 or an ACT Composite range of 33 - 35. Passions, extracurricular activities, course rigor, and letters of evaluation are also considered. The team also encourages students to make their essays unique and take it as a chance to show off their personality.
