Sam Houston State University (out-of-state)

$1,500 per year. Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student in good standing enrolled at Sam Houston State University, majoring in any discipline, have taken time between high school and starting college (minimum of six months) or be returning to college (after a minimum of six months out of college) to finish a degree or to get another degree. Preference will be given to single parents. Recipients will continue to receive this award for a second year as long as they are students at SHSU and continue to meet the selection criteria. They must submit a one page essay on their future plans and how the scholarship has affected them. Recipients may receive the scholarship for a third year if they write an essay demonstrating that they are under particular hardship and deserve to receive the scholarship another year. GPA of 2.8 is required.
